TCNJ - Collapsible Trailer
TCNJ - Collapsible Trailer
2025 - 2026
About
Collapsible trailers have wide-ranging applications across industries where storage efficiency and transport versatility are essential. This team of senior engineering students was tasked with designing and manufacturing a trailer capable of expanding and collapsing in width. The design incorporates a reliable suspension system for stability and a brake light system compatible with towing vehicles to ensure safety and compliance. The final deliverable is a full-sized, road-legal prototype that maintains structural integrity while reducing its width for improved storage and functionality.

Follow Us On Our Journey
October 15, 2025

The team took apart an old trailer provied by TCNJ. We are able to salvage parts with hopes of being able to use them in the final build.

October 22, 2025

Today we laser cut MDF to began prototyping our design.
October 23, 2025

We assembled the laser cut MDF using nuts and bolts to ultimately build our initial prototype.
December 1, 2025

The team performed ANSYS testing on the new frame design and determined it will provide the necessary strength to put the trailer on the road.
We built a new prototype using different geometry and determined that the new design will reduce risk of failure on the road.
